¡¡¡¡In this special Olympics issue of
our magazine, ISO President, Hakan
Murby, expresses his best wishes to
China and Beijing for the 29th Olympic
Games. He shows
that the developm-
ent of standards and sports are clos-
ely related and that they promote and
develop eachother. ISO Secretary-
General, Alan Bryden,wrote the article
"ISO International Standards-a 'toolbox' of Olympic proportions for major sporting, culturaland socialevents".Inhisarticle, he discusses the connections between the Olympics and the environment, quality, management, building, infrastructure, transport, and information. Standards are like abridge connecting all of these aspects because standards are not only the foundation of industrialization, but also touch nearly every aspect of our daily lives.
¡¡¡¡China is one of the most active members of the ISO and implements the international standards enthusiastically.Melding the Olympics and the environment together is the most important feature of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In accordance with ISO14001,the Beijing Olympics Committeehasdevised and executed an environmental management system which strictly abides by China's environmental laws and standards. The impact of the "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics" will soon be visible to the public.
¡¡¡¡I am waiting for the Olympics day eagerly. I would like to express my gratitude to ISO President for his message of goodwill and to ISO Secretary-General and BSI Group for their excellent discussion on "Olympics and Standards". To be a standardization worker at such a time fills us with confidence and enthusiasm for our work. The 2008 Beijing Olympics has promoted the development of sports and ushered standards into anewera.
