At the advent of the grand opening of the 29th Olympiad in Beijing with the entire world watching, I, on behalf of the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China, would like to extend our kind regards and high respects to the standardization professionals in China and all over the world providing support and assistance to the current Olympic Games as well as all the comrades and friends concerned with and supporting the standardization work!
Looking back at the Olympic Games in the past, we can find that without the support of standardization, these Games would not have been successfully held. In order to ensure the success of the 29th Olympiad, Chinese standardization professionals will focus on various requirements of the Chinese government on standardization, and formulate or revise a series of national standards in terms of food safety, health service, stadium construction, sporting facilities and equipment, administration of public activities, transportation logos and markings as well as graphic signs so as to provide the technical and basic guarantee for the success of the Olympic Games.
The slogan of “Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and People’s Olympics” put forward for the 2008 Beijing Olympics shows the determination and confidence of the Chinese government and people, who will display the Olympic spirit to the world through the Games. With the support and effort of Chinese standardization professionals, the Beijing Olympic Organization Committee has established and implemented the environmental management system of the Beijing Olympic Organization Committee in line with the ISO14001, and the Beijing Olympic Games will strictly observe the national environmental protection laws and regulations as well as standards of China and use the new environmental management mode to meet higher environmental protection requirements. We are convinced that the Beijing Olympics will create a green, hi-tech and people’s Olympic environment for all the participants in the Games as well as the public, and the 29th Olympiad will be a grand meeting with “unique features and high level”.
I would like to thank the International Organization for Standardization again for its support and help, and wish the Olympic Games a complete success. Good luck China, good luck Beijing!

在万众瞩目的北京第29届奥林匹克运动盛会召开之际，我谨代表中国国家标准化管理委员会，向为本届奥运会提供支持和帮助的中国及世界标准化工作者及所有关心和支持标准化工作的同志们、朋友们表示亲切的慰问，并致以崇高的敬意！
回顾历届奥运会，之所以能顺利召开，都离不开标准化的支持。为确保第29届奥林匹克运动会地成功举办，中国标准化工作者将紧密围绕中国政府对标准化工作提出的各项要求，在食品安全、卫生服务、体育场馆建设、体育设施器材、公共活动管理、交通标志标线和图形符号等领域，制修订一批国家标准，做好了成功举办奥运会的技术基础保障工作。
北京2008年奥运会提出了“绿色奥运、科技奥运和人文奥运”的口号。这表明了中国政府和人民的决心及信心，并将通过本届运动会向世界展示奥林匹克精神。在中国标准化工作者的支持和努力下，北京奥组委以ISO14001为原则，建立并执行北京奥组委环境管理体系，北京奥运会将严格遵守中国国家环境保护法规和标准；使用新的环境管理模式，达到更高的环保要求。我们相信，北京奥运会将为所有参与奥林匹克运动的人员以及公众创造一个绿色、科技、人文的奥运环境，第29届奥林匹克运动会将会是一届“有特色、高水平”的盛会。 再次感谢国际标准化组织对29届奥运会的支持与帮助，并预祝本届奥运会圆满成功，好运中国、好运北京！
